• Grout cracking in a straight-line pattern - This usually means the substrate moved, not the tile. • Hollow sound when you knock on shower floor tiles - Thinset failure, often from a latex-additive mix that degraded in Carlsbad’s coastal humidity. The Tremron paver itself is fine; it’s floating on a skin of failed adhesive. Left alone, it cracks underfoot or lets water pool beneath.
• Discoloration that won’t clean off - On natural stone Tremron lines, this is typically etching from acidic cleaners or long-term hard-water exposure. Porcelain Aura won’t etch, so discoloration there means the glaze layer has worn through, which happens at the 15-18 year mark in high-use Carlsbad master baths.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground and a hard stop. An owner can check: whether the hollow tile is isolated or widespread (knock with the plastic handle of a screwdriver, listen for the dead thud versus the ring), whether the grout crack runs with the joint or across the tile face (across means replacement; with the joint means regrouting may work), and whether the water stain below is active or old (tape a square of aluminum foil over it for 24 hours, check for condensation).

The hard stop is any demo that disturbs the waterproofing membrane. In Carlsbad, most Tremron installations from the 2005-2015 era used a bonded sheet membrane that tears when you pry up the first tile.
