To identify yours, check the post cap - original series caps pop off by hand and reveal a hollow extrusion; current series caps are screwed down and cover a foam-filled post. The rail bracket is the giveaway: if it’s stamped “Silestone” with a 2014-2015 date code, it’s the first generation and replacement brackets are NLA from the OEM. We machine compatible brackets in-house from 6061-T6 aluminum, anodized to match, because waiting 8-10 weeks for overseas backorder doesn’t work when your HOA compliance deadline is 30 days. Signs Your Silestone Fence Installation Is Failing

• Posts lean or wobble at the base. In Carlsbad’s loose coastal sand, especially west of El Camino Real, Silestone posts rely on a 30″ minimum concrete footing with a bell-shaped bottom. When that footing cracks from ground movement or was poured too shallow to begin with, the post tilts and transfers lateral load to the rail brackets. We pull the post, re-excavate to spec, and pour with a mechanical rebar cage - not just more concrete on top of the failure.
• Rail brackets crack or pull away from posts. The composite rail expands and contracts with temperature swings; Carlsbad sees 40-degree daily swings in fall. If the bracket was over-torqued at install or the wrong screw series was used, stress concentrates at the lower bolt hole and the bracket shears. We replace with slotted-hole brackets that allow 3/16″ thermal movement.
• Panels bow between posts or sag at mid-span. Silestone rails are rated for 6′ on-center post spacing in standard conditions. We’ve found multiple Carlsbad installs at 8′ spacing to save on posts, which overloads the rail and voids the material warranty. We measure actual deflection, document it with photos, and quote post addition if needed - not a band-aid.
• Surface fading or chalking unevenly. South-facing fences in Carlsbad’s UV exposure can show color shift in 5-7 years if the original batch lacked sufficient UV stabilizer. If the footing is undersized or the post isn’t plumb, the gate frame racks and the Silestone latch hardware binds. We check post plumb with a 4-foot level, shim the hinges if the frame is true, or rebuild the post footing if it’s the root cause - the hardware is rarely the actual problem.
