The etched mark includes the PGT order number, glass thickness, and impact rating. For hardware replacements, measure the visible frame width and check whether your lock mechanism is surface-mounted or mortised into the sash, a distinction that changed between PGT’s 2018 and 2021 hardware generations. Signs Your PGT Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

• Fogging or haze between glass panes. This means the insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed, allowing moist Carlsbad air into the airspace. The laminated interlayer is doing its job, but the glass ply is compromised and no longer meets the design pressure rating for your addition’s wind zone. What goes wrong with DIY on PGT units starts with the weight, an impact-rated sliding sash can exceed 80 pounds, and ends with the warranty, PGT voids the glass warranty if the unit is removed by anyone other than a certified installer or documented professional.
